STARS TOP STRYKERS 7-5 IN BACK-AND-FORTH BATTLE

by Pete Richmire

ONTARIO, CA. –  The Tacoma Stars (2-2-0) used 3-point games from Alessandro Canale and Nick Perera to wear down the Empire Strykers (1-5-0) by a 7-5 final at Toyota Arena on Thursday night.

Canale netted a hat trick to push his team-lead in goals to six on the season, while Perera picked up three assists. With his assist total at seven to go with five goals, Perera leads the Stars in scoring with 12 points after four games this season.

Willie Spurr, in his return to Ontario where his season was cut short two years ago due to an injury, notched his first two points of the season with a goal and an assist in the winning effort.

Kyle Rivers, Jamael Cox, and Mike Ramos all added goals with Logan Jones and Chris Toth being credited with assists.

For the Strykers, Marco Fabián had another strong outing with a goal and pair of assists to move into the second spot on the Empire roster in scoring with seven points.

The story of the night was the Stars goalkeeper who entered the game needing 22 saves to become the all-time leader in MASL history, surpassing legend and teammate Danny Waltman for that honor. He finished with 16 saves to bring his career total to 1928. Waltman currently sits atop the list with 1933 regular-season saves.

Next up for Tacoma is a tussle in San Diego with the Sockers this Saturday at 7:05 pm before returning home to host Utica City FC on January 6. Kick off is 7:05 pm and for tickets head to www.tacomastars.showare.com today!
