STARS TAKE DECISIVE 12-2 WIN VS SIDEKICKS IN TEXAS

by Pete Richmire

ALLEN, TX - The Stars (11-6-2) shined bright in Texas as Tacoma rolled to a 12-2 win over the Sidekicks (3-17-0) at the Credit Union of Texas Event Center on Wednesday night. Nani Mendoza finished the night with five assists for the Stars, just one shy of the MASL single-game record.

It was a complete effort for the Stars as eight different players recorded at least one goal, led by Justin Stinson's hat trick. He, like Mendoza, finished the game with five points as he added a pair of assists to go with his three goals. Alessandro Canale (2G-1A), Jamael Cox (2G-0A), Kyle Rivers (1G-1A), and Stefan Mijatovic (1G-1A) all had multi-point performances for Tacoma.

Five more players chipped in with a point bringing the total number of Stars to find the scoresheet to 11 on the night.

Tacoma took an 8-0 lead into the final quarter and Canale made it 9-0 before the Sidekicks scored to put an end to Stars' goalkeeper Chris Toth's clean sheet. Only seven shots got through to Toth and he turned six of them away on the way to the win in goal.

Dallas netted their second goal of the game on a penalty kick by Jamie Lovegrove against Luis Birrueta, who had entered the game in goal for the Stars.

With the victory, Tacoma moved three points ahead of Texas into third place in the Western Conference with two games in hand over the Outlaws.

Tacoma's attention will now turn to a pair of games at the accesso ShoWare Center this Friday and Saturday against the defending MASL Champion Chihuahua Savage. Tickets are available at www.tacomastars.showare.com
